Jessica's Pregnancy Journal, Entry 4: 13 Weeks

Dear Diary,

Technically I am out of the first trimester woods and am now sailing through the smooth second trimester waters. I still feel pretty tired but that little voice in my head that says “Think about someone besides yourself” is back!!! Hooray!

I have been having bad dreams which are totally normal for me during pregnancy. I’m usually able to shake them off and while having them during the first pregnancy unnerved me I know they’re fleeting and deal with them much better now. Some women have very vivid dreams while pregnant, mine just happen to be bad vivid dreams.

Baby James is crawling now! Who would’ve thought that a kid that spent his first two months in the NICU would crawl EARLY!!! It started with the first tentative movements at seven and a half months old. A couple of weeks later and we’re calling him “Turbo”! He gets really frustrated when there’s an object in the way but he gravitates toward objects that will get in his way so we do a little dance with that every day. It is a joy. Oh, he also pulls up on everything including his crib. And he’s getting new teeth.

I hardly have time digest the little nuances of pregnancy that I did last year because we’re so busy, Baby James and I, but in the evenings the husband and I daydream about the new baby together still.

Every morning I get Baby James out of his crib and we get back into mommy and daddy’s bed and have a snuggle. We don’t go back to sleep, we just snuggle, quietly, so we don’t wake up daddy. I cherish this time more than words can describe and I hope that it doesn’t go away when the new baby comes!!! That would make me so sad! Do other women feel like this? I’m not sure if it’s a betrayal against the new baby. I want the new baby!!! I’m just a little anxious about the change. My mom says that even though my brother and I are 6 years apart she remembers little things like that and that they just change when the new baby comes, they don’t go away. That was SO comforting to hear. Mom’s know just how to put things sometimes.

I had better get to bed in case the teething keeps us up tonight. Wish me luck!
