Pediatric Rehab Services

Sharp Rees-Stealy's Pediatric Rehabilitation offers a variety of services to help children reach their maximum potential.

Alert Program for Self-Regulation
This program teaches parents and children sensory motor strategies for self-regulation. This program helps children learn to monitor and change their level of alertness and adapt appropriately to a given situation. Five strategies are explored with both the parent and child with suggested home activities.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST)
A light touch manual therapy that addresses restrictions in the craniosacral system, the membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. This system extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth, which make up the cranium, down to the sacrum, or tailbone area. The craniosacral system directly impacts the central nervous system. And an imbalance there could cause sensory, motor or neurological disabilities. CST helps correct restrictions so the body can release the effects of stress naturally and relieve undue pressure on the brain and spinal cord.

Developmental Screening
This is a one-time, interdisciplinary team (OT, PT and speech) screening for developmental delays and speech/language disorders. A brief report of findings is provided with additional recommendations. This is for children ages 0 to 3 years.

High-Risk Neonatal Follow-Up
This is an assessment of infants at risk for developmental delays based on diagnosis or complications during prenatal or neonatal life. An evaluation occurs at the adjusted age of 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months and 18 months. Assessments are completed by an occupational therapist and a physical therapist.

Intensive Therapy
This program provides intensive sensory integration therapy to small groups of children with similar sensory processing issues, ages and development. Intensive therapy sessions are two hours long for five consecutive days. These are usually offered during the summer months and school breaks.

Preschool Screening
This is a one time, interdisciplinary team (OT, PT, SP) screening for developmental delays and speech/language disorders. A brief report of findings is provided with additional recommendations as needed. This is for children ages three to five years.

Sensory Integration and Praxis Test (SIPT)
A formal assessment tool used to assess several different practice abilities, various aspects of the sensory processing status of the vestibular, proprioceptive, kinesthetic, tactile and visual systems and the major behavioral manifestations of deficits in integration of sensory inputs from these systems. This assessment can be given to children between the ages of 4 and 11 years old and is offered by a therapist trained in the administration of this test.

Social Skills Group
This program provides specific activities to practice and learn appropriate social interactions and problem solving skills in a small group setting with similar ages and development.

Therapeutic Listening
Therapeutic listening utilizes music that has been electronically activated (modified) to enhance the qualities of the music, which then capture, sustain attention, support sensory processing and improve listening skills. This program can have an impact on the vestibular and auditory systems. Specialized headphones that allow the music to be heard as well as environmental sounds are used during the treatment session. This program is easily integrated to home use.

Torticollis Stretching Class
A weekly class for all children diagnosed with torticollis. Parents will be guided through a variety of home exercises that focus on stretching and strengthening techniques. Children will be allowed to progress at their own pace.
