Sara Mosey, AuD, holds a doctor of audiology degree from Indiana University. Her interests include diagnostic audiology for adults, hearing aids, bone anchored hearing aids and dizziness assessments.
How did you choose the field of audiology?
I discovered the field of audiology while studying to be a teacher for students with hearing loss. Although I loved the education field, I became very interested in a profession that expanded into the field of science, technology and patient care. Audiology is a wonderful combination of these things.
What do you do in your role at Sharp Rees-Stealy as an audiologist?
I perform a variety of diagnostic tests, including comprehensive audiologic evaluations for patients ages 5 and up and videonystagmography (VNG) testing for patients with imbalance or dizziness. I am currently in training to perform electrophysiologic tests, including auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing and electrocochleography (Ecog) testing.
In addition to diagnostic testing, I provide hearing aid services to patients, including the selection and fitting of their hearing aids as well as cleanings, adjustments and patient orientation to the hearing aids. Finally, I fit bone anchored hearing aids (BAHAs) and am currently in training as the newest member to Sharp Rees-Stealy’s Cochlear Implant team.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I feel very rewarded when my patients tell me that the quality of their life has improved since getting their hearing aids. Hearing loss can cause people to withdraw from social gatherings, lessen their communication with loved ones and even avoid talking on the telephone. When a patient tells me that their hearing aids have helped them communicate with their family and friends and get more involved in the activities in their lives, I feel very rewarded by my work.
