Ann Marie's Rehabilitation Story: Primal Reflex Release Technique

For years, Ann Marie Sheehan, a retired teacher, couldn't look at a bus without becoming tense and overwhelmed with anxiety. Several years ago, Ann Marie was struck by one while driving her car, which left her with severe pain in her back and shoulders that seemed to worsen each time she glimpsed a bus. In 2010, Ann Marie was involved in another car accident that sent her pain over the edge.

Desperate to find a solution for her discomfort, Ann Marie turned to physical therapy at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. There, she was introduced to a novel treatment, called primal reflex release technique (PRRT), that she learned might help her not only overcome her pain, but also her physical reaction to busses. When Tara O'Kelly, a physical therapist, explained that the treatment involved unusual techniques like pulling the hair and pinching the ears, Ann Marie put her skepticism aside and agreed to try it.

"I figured it couldn't hurt and I was willing to try anything to feel better," Ann Marie said.

After the first treatment, Ann Marie saw an immediate decrease in her pain. In addition, she was able to look at a bus and remain relaxed.

"Before I discovered PRRT, my pain and discomfort was at least a 6 to 8 out of 10," Ann Marie said. "Now, it's about a 2 or 4. I feel like it's a miracle."
