2015 Eagle Spirit Award Recipients
In 2002, Rick Quintero sustained a spinal cord injury. He was determined to rebuild his life and conquer challenges. Rick serves as a peer support adviser for patients with newly acquired spinal cord injuries and shares his positive insight on living life to the fullest. With his upbeat personality, Rick embodies compassion, gratitude and appreciation for life.
Retired professor Ray Valle suffered a devastating stroke. Although not expected to live, Ray defied the odds with his courage and tenacity to recover. After months of rehabilitation, he regained his independence. Today, Ray continues to research, write papers with colleagues and speak to groups. He is active in policy development in the field of dementia among multicultural populations. Ray mentors rehabilitation patients with humor and enthusiasm.
MJ Walcher, an active mother, dedicated wife and businessperson, had a stroke in 2009. She redirected her energy to focus on her recovery and overcome her physical challenges. Today, she continues her lifelong commitment to helping others and giving back. MJ's smile and warm personality brighten any room.
Life Rolls On Foundation
Life Rolls On is a nonprofit organization that inspires others to see the boundless possibilities beyond paralysis. Established in 2002, its signature adaptive surfing program, They Will Surf Again, has grown into a catalyst of hope for thousands of individuals throughout the world.
