Sharp gave me an opportunity to come here and do my best. They’ve embraced me and I’m embracing them.
I’ve worked at many different facilities here in San Diego, across most of the major health systems here in San Diego. But I wouldn’t really go anywhere else. And it’s not really the lure of having a beautiful hospital, the best machinery, the status, although we have all of that. I believe it’s great.
But it’s really enjoying your time here and being valued as part of the team. You have to have the competent and trained staff and the methods in place to ensure that these … these machines, these procedures are done correctly so that everyone is held responsible for upholding quality.
Quality means doing the job right. I feel like every single patient, every single staff member, every single coworker of mine is one of my family because they’ve touched my lives. They’ve entered my life. I need to treat that patient, that coworker, that staff member, no matter who they are, if they’re a doctor, a nurse, laundry staff, cafeteria worker, as much as I would like to be valued.
There’s … there’s something to be said about feeling secure, feeling valued that your skills and your commitment to patient care is being utilized. And I have found that here. I’m not just a commodity here. I’m not just another worker. I’m not just another name tag. I’m Art. I’m Art here.
