We work hard to make sure we understand the state of the art of the medicine, but we also carry with us a deep respect and appreciation for our patients. And so really that comes to getting to know the patient, what kind of things are important to them.

And when they get out of the surgery and get out of our immediate care, what kind of life, real life situations are they going to be faced. So really it’s important to me to have that level of relationship with my patients.

For me, performing surgery is a real passion. Neurosurgery encompasses the entire central nervous system. So the central nervous system is the brain and the spine.

And in everyday settings it turns out due to the effects of gravity on our spine, degenerative conditions that require treatment in the spine are very common and minimally invasive techniques have been a major revolution in our field. And they enable us to treat very bad, life-changing problems for patients in a highly effective way, and it really has given us the opportunity to really have a profound impact in people’s lives.
