Baby Care Basics Class
First-time parent? This class will take the guesswork out of newborn care.

Learn all the basic baby care you need to know before heading home with your newborn. In this hands-on class you will practice diapering, dressing and swaddling baby dolls. Other topics covered will include:
- Basic infant care
- Characteristics of a newborn
- Infant nutrition
- Signs and symptoms of illness
- Crying
- Bathing
- Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
- Basic car-seat safety

This class is free for Sharp Health Plan Insurance members and offered at a discount for Sharp HealthCare employees.
Sharp Mary Birch Expectant Parent Package: Choose from the four-week, weekend or one-day childbirth preparation classes and add a breastfeeding and baby care basics class for an additional $40 (a $20 discount). Discount applicable to new registrations for classes sponsored by Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns only. Must purchase all three classes in the same transaction. Classes are nonrefundable.

Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel your registration for this event, please call 1-800-827-4277 Monday through Friday, 7 am to 7 pm, or log in to your account to cancel online.
- For Employee couple: A fee of $10 will be deducted from the amount paid if you cancel your registration less than 3 days before the event.
- For Couple: A fee of $10 will be deducted from the amount paid if you cancel your registration less than 3 days before the event.
- For City of San Diego employee couple: A fee of $10 will be deducted from the amount paid if you cancel your registration less than 3 days before the event.
- For SMB expectant parent package: A fee of $20 will be deducted from the amount paid if you cancel your registration less than 150 days before the event.
Parking Information
Please park in structure No. 2, adjacent to the main entrance of the hospital and bring your parking ticket with you to class for validation. There is no fee for parking.
Please note that all visitors to the Sharp Grossmont Hospital Women's Health Center age 18 and older are now required to present a government-issued photo ID upon arrival.
Fee Information
If you registered using the City of San Diego employee discount, please remember to bring your employee identification badge with you to class.
Special Instructions
Out of consideration for others, please refrain from attending the class if you are sick or think you might be contagious.
Student Observation: If you are not an expectant parent and need to observe a class, approval must be obtained prior to attendance. Please be advised that any paid registration for observation purposes will not be refunded. To obtain approval, please call 1-800-82-SHARP and you will be referred to the appropriate location. Walk-ins cannot be accommodated.
Presenter Information
Classes are taught by a certified perinatal educator.
Course Recommendations
We recommend this class be taken three to four weeks prior to your due date.
