Explore the ancient art of belly dance at this one-day class designed for medical professionals and members of the public. The workshop will combine a lecture on the history and health benefits of belly dance as well as dance instruction featuring authentic Middle Eastern music.
Belly dancing can improve flexibility and coordination, while increasing your core muscle strength. You will also learn how to nurture your body, mind and spirit through this exquisite dance form.
After attending this workshop, you will be able to:
- Name the health benefits of belly dance movements
- Identify the muscle groups utilized in relation to each belly dance movement
- Know emotional stabilizing concepts of dance and dance therapy
No previous experience is necessary to attend this class.

Michelle "Milana" Foster is a professional belly dancer and has studied the art of belly dance for more than 22 years. For the past three years, she trained in the Suhaila Salimpour format of belly dancing, receiving her Level 1 certification.
Foster has performed regionally at many special events both as a solo performer and in groups via her entertainment company, Divine Entertainment, which she founded in 1997. It is her joy and passion to entertain at all types of celebrations and for people of all ages.
The class includes a lecture followed by a warmup and stretching prior to the dance instruction. There will also be a period for improvisational and freestyle movement at the end of the day.
Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time of the class.
Please wear loose, comfortable workout clothing that you can easily move in. If you have a hip scarf, veil or yoga mat, please bring them with you to class.
Lunch is available for purchase at the Sharp Memorial Hospital cafeteria or you may bring your own lunch. Only light refreshments will be provided for this course.
This course is provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (Provider No. 70) for 6.0 contact hours. Partial credit will not be issued. Please bring your nursing license number to class and make sure to sign in to receive your CEUs.
