Activities include invasive plant removal, native plant rescue, watering and care of recent plantings, trail maintenance and litter removal. No experience needed and community service hours can be verified. An educational walking tour will be included.

If this event is full, please call 1-800-82-SHARP (1-800-827-4277) Monday through Friday, 7 am to 7 pm, and asked to be placed on our waitlist.

Parking Information plus

Free parking is available on the street or in the large lot at the western end of Voltaire Street.

Special Instructions plus

Sharp HealthCare encourages our team members to bring their families to our volunteer events whenever possible. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Please account for and include the names of all guests during the registration process. To accomplish this online, please add as many guests as you will have to your registration basket before checkout.

Arrival plus

Please meet in the grassy area just inside the Dog Beach parking lot in Ocean Beach at the western end of Voltaire Street. Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled shift to allow time for parking and checking in at the volunteer table.

What to Bring plus

Dress comfortably and wear your Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirt. Be sure to dress in clothes that can get a little dirty and wear closed-toe shoes; no sandals or heels allowed for safety reasons. Depending on the weather, you can also want to wear a hat, jacket and sunscreen. You may also bring your own work gloves. All other tools and supplies are provided.

Feel free to bring your own snacks and refreshments. In order to reduce single-use plastics, you are encouraged to bring your own reusable water bottle with water to drink.

Please leave purses, jewelry and other valuables at home or locked in your car. Sharp HealthCare and the Friends of the San Diego River Mouth will not be responsible for any missing personal belongings.

How do I obtain a Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirt?
The Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirts are not event-specific, so if you have volunteered in a past event, you don't need to obtain another T-shirt. If you are volunteering for the first time, you may pick up your T-shirt at Spectrum by going to the second floor and following the signs to the T-shirt location. We have sizes ranging from child medium to adult XXXL.
