Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training is a two-course component program consisting of two hours of online modules and a three-hour in-person class. It is designed to educate members of the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center leadership team with ways to improve patient and employee safety, introduce concepts for safety and crisis prevention and get practical skills for safely managing and preventing difficult behavior.
With focus on prevention, the core training program will equip you with proven strategies for safely defusing anxious, hostile or violent behavior at the earliest possible stage.
CPI's crisis prevention and intervention training helps organizations to:
- Reduce the risk of injury.
- Comply with legislative mandates.
- Meet regulatory/accreditation standards.
- Improve staff retention.
- Minimize exposure to liability.
- Promote care, welfare, safety and security.
Register for one of the in-person classes below. After signing up, you will be sent information about how to complete the online portion of the coursework via email. The online modules must be completed prior to attending an in-person session.

Parking is available in the structures at the front and back of the main hospital, as well as in the large lot behind the main hospital. Paid valet parking is available to patients and visitors Monday through Friday, 10 am to 4 pm.

This course will be led by Sarah Saunders-Harbaugh, RN, BSN, and Joshua Litan, HCP.
After registering, you will be sent an email with information from the CPI on how to access and complete the online modules. If you would like to utilize the workbook to complete the online modules, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please make sure to complete the online materials before arriving at your in-person training day.
Due to the physical nature of this class, please wear gym attire, including comfortable clothing and athletic footwear.
This course is provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (Provider No. 70) for 5.0 contact hours. Partial credit will not be awarded.
