Presented by Sharp Memorial Hospital plus

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically supported eight-week online program based on pioneering research by Kristin Neff, PhD, of the University of Texas and the clinical expertise of Chris Germer, PhD, of the Harvard Medical School-Cambridge Health Alliance.

MSC is strongly associated with emotional well-being and can reduce anxiety, depression and stress. By design, MSC emphasizes core principles and strategies to recognize difficult situations and respond with greater stress resilience and self-kindness.

MSC is therapeutic, but it’s not therapy. The emphasis of the program is on building the resources of mindfulness and self-compassion. MSC is not a substitute for medical or mental health care.

In-class activities include experiential exercises and group discussions. MSC is cumulative so that each weekly class builds upon the previous class. To optimize the MSC benefit, participants are encouraged to dedicate 30 minutes per day for MSC home practice and to attend all sessions, however, you may miss up to two.

Target Audience: Sharp HealthCare employees and other health care professionals from the community.

Learning Objectives: Following this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe key research supporting the benefits of mindful self-compassion
  • Identify the three fundamental components of mindful self-compassion
  • Employ the skill of mindfulness to identify opportunities for self-compassion
  • Relate to difficult emotions with greater moment-by-moment mindfulness, acceptance and ease
  • Apply three strategies to manage and ease one’s own caregiver fatigue
  • Integrate core mindfulness and self-compassion exercises and skills into daily life
