In a patient-centered care environment, the patient’s specific needs and desired outcomes are the driving force behind all health care decisions. Patients are partners with their health care team, which includes phlebotomists. The team relies on accurate and reliable lab test results to diagnose and treat patients.
This three-hour class will show you how to be mindful of your patient’s needs and the environmental surroundings to ensure that care is delivered in a manner that is safe for both the patient and the phlebotomist.
At the conclusion of this program, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate skills to enhance communications with patients of varying ages
- Discuss various approaches to challenging phlebotomy draw situations
- Describe test procedures that require special specimen collection/handling to help ensure accurate, reliable test results
- Discuss easily implemented injury prevention measures
