Presented by Sharp HealthCare plus

The Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute's (CLSI) “Collection of Diagnostic Venous Blood Specimens” document (GP41-Ed7) provides a process and procedures for diagnostic venous blood specimen collection. This newly revised standard addresses venipuncture safety issues, patient identification, site preparation, specimen processing and storage and response to emergencies that could occur during phlebotomy.

This educational session will highlight the changes in the revised standard and provide discussion on how to implement those changes in our laboratories.

At the conclusion of this program, you will be able to:

  • Discuss new process recommendations to enhance venipuncture safety
  • Demonstrate the current proper method for selecting and cleansing a phlebotomy site
  • Discuss new recommendations for specimen processing and storage
  • Describe the CLSI recommendations for responding to patient emergency situations

Please note that all registrants must possess one of the following California licenses: CPT, MLT or CLS.
