Phlebotomists are confronted with challenging situations when collecting blood specimens every day. These challenges include phlebotomy draws on geriatric, pediatric, obese, cognitively impaired and critically ill patients. 

At this educational session, we will discuss successful strategies for collecting blood specimens in a wide variety of difficult settings.

At the conclusion of this program, you will be able to:

  • Implement strategies for obtaining blood samples when venous access is limited
  • Discuss methods for overcoming phlebotomy challenges in a variety of situations
  • Evaluate best equipment selections for difficult draws
  • Describe strategies to reduce anxiety in pediatric patients

Please note that all registrants must possess one of the following California licenses: CPT, MLT or CLS.

Parking Information plus

Free visitor parking is available from the lot entrance on Spectrum Center Boulevard. Employee parking is available in the front, back and side of the Spectrum building. The four entrances on Tech Way require an activated employee badge.

Arrival plus

On May 8, breakfast will be available at 8 am and the event will begin at 8:30 am. Please arrive no later than 8:10 am.

On May 23, a light dinner will be available at 5:30 pm and the seminar will begin at 6 pm. Please arrive no later than 5:40 pm.

What to Bring plus

All registrants are required to bring their license number to the seminar to receive continuing education credit.

A sweater or light jacket is recommended as room temperatures may fluctuate. Please note, guests are not allowed at this continuing education event.

CEUs plus

Sharp HealthCare Pathology is a California-approved laboratory continuing education accrediting agency. Sharp HealthCare designates this educational activity for a maximum of 3.0 contact hours of continuing education. You must bring your license number with you to the class to receive credit.
