Presented by Sharp HealthCare plus

This one-day workshop is designed for recreation therapists, activity leaders and students. You will learn about different treatment modalities that you can use with your clients such as biofield tuning, aroma therapy and accessible yoga. You will also be able to explore volunteer opportunities and your possible role in times of a disaster.

A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

For Standard: A fee of 100 percent will be deducted from the amount paid if you cancel your registration less than 3 days before the event.

Parking Information plus

Parking in Balboa Park lots is free. Park in the Inspiration Point parking lot (on the east side of Park Boulevard, between Presidents Way and the Balboa Park Activity Center) for easy access via the free tram. There are also numerous smaller lots throughout the park.

Presenter Information plus

  • Debbie Moore, MA, CTRS, RTC, is the lead recreation therapist and adaptive yoga teacher at the Sharp Memorial Rehabiitation Center.
  • Jackie Gadd, RYT200, RPYT, has been a yoga practicioner since 2004. She is a certified teacher for Teaching Yoga for Multiple Sclerosis and is an Accessible Yoga Ambassador.
  • Jo-San Arnold, MA, E-RYT, RCYT, YACEP, is an Accessible Yoga Ambassador and is certified in yoga for Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, Rest & Renew and wounded warriors.
  • Regina Izu, PhD, ACNS, PHN, HTP, FAHA, is a healing touch practitioner and clinical assistant professor at National University.
  • Jillian Faldmo, BSN, RN, PMHN, is a certified biofield tuning practitioner and teacher.
  • Lori Rhoades, BSN, RN, Ne-BC, is the director of nursing for Sharp Home Infusion Services.
  • Shintaro Kono is a PhD candidate and an assistant professor in public health and recreation professions at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.
  • Susan Burton, MS, MA, CTRS, has over 40 years of clinical experience in recreation therapy and currently works at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center in Sherman, Texas.
  • Teresa Penbrooke, PhD, MAOM, CPRE, is the CEO and founder of Greenplay, a national private parks, recreation, tourism and open space consulting firm.
  • Liz Clarno, CTRS, RTC, ATRIC, is a lead recreation therapist at Sharp Grossmont Hospital.
  • Megan Conrad, CTRS, is a recreation therapist at Sharp Grossmont Hospital.

10:50 – 11:50 am: Operation Recreation Response (ORR): Preparation for and Response to Natural Disasters
11:50 am – 1:15 pm: Lunch; Disaster Task Force Focus Group (optional)
1:15 – 2:45 pm: Use of Aroma Therapy in Recreation Therapy
2:45 – 3 pm: Break
3 – 4:30 pm: Accessible Yoga
4:30 – 4:45 pm: Closing

Arrival plus

Please arrive at 7:30 am to enjoy a continental breakfast and an opportunity to network with your peers. The program begins at 8 am.

What to Bring plus

If you are interested in claiming your CEU credits, please bring a check made out to Liz Clarno for $10 to the event. This is in addition to any event registration fee. You may also want to bring your own water bottle and a cushion for your seat.

CEUs plus

JAS Therapeutic Recreation Educational Services is officially on file and approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (Provider No. 13348) for 0.65 units. The optional lunch meeting is an additional 0.1 units.
