Join the San Diego River Park Foundation at the San Diego River Garden as we care for a wonderful collection of California native plants and trees at this five-acre location in Mission Valley. Activities include trail maintenance, watering, pruning and other light gardening projects.
This is a family-friendly event and no experience is needed. Community service hours can be verified.

The garden is located on the north side of Camino Del Rio North, to the east of Mission City Parkway. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled shift to allow time for parking and registration. Check in with the volunteer coordinator when you arrive.
Please note that there are no restroom facilities at this site. Be sure to plan accordingly.
- Every participant will need to bring a signed copy of the San Diego River Park Foundation waiver and release form that will be emailed to you immediately after registration. Anyone under the age of 18 needs a parent's or guardian's signature to participate.
- Dress comfortably and wear your Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirt. Be sure to dress in clothes that can get a little dirty and wear closed-toe shoes; no sandals or flip-flops allowed for safety reasons. Depending on the weather, you may also want to wear a hat, jacket and sunscreen. You should also bring bug spray and your own work gloves. All other tools and supplies are provided.
- Feel free to bring your own snacks and refreshments. In order to reduce single-use plastics, you are encouraged to bring your own reusable water bottle with water to drink. Please note that there is no potable water at this site.
- Please leave purses, jewelry and other valuables at home. Sharp HealthCare and the San Diego River Park Foundation will not be responsible for any missing personal belongings.
How do I obtain a Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirt?
The Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirts are not event-specific, so if you have volunteered in a past event, you don't need to obtain another T-shirt. If you are volunteering for the first time, you may pick up your T-shirt at Spectrum by going to the second floor and following the signs to the T-shirt location. We have sizes ranging from child medium to adult XXXL.
The Spectrum building is open from 6 am to 6 pm and you must have your Sharp ID for access into the building. If you cannot come to Spectrum, please arrange to have a Sharp employee pick one up for you. Unfortunately, we cannot interoffice mail the shirts.
Can I bring my children?
Sharp HealthCare encourages our team members to bring their families to our volunteer events whenever possible. Children are welcome to volunteer for this activity, but please make sure they are registered. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. To obtain a community service certificate for your child’s school, email Sharp Lends a Hand after the event.
For more information, please review the San Diego River Garden FAQs page on SharpNET or email Sharp Lends a Hand.
