Sharp Grossmont Behavioral Health AVADE Level I-III Initial Training Class
This class teaches Sharp Behavioral Health employees how to prevent violence in the workplace.

This course is for employees who work in Behavioral Health at Sharp Grossmont, Sharp Mesa Vista or Sharp McDonald Center only. If you do not work in the Behavioral Health Department do not register for this class.
This initial level I-III class is designed to provide training to help you prevent violence in the workplace via a program known as AVADE (awareness, vigilance, avoidance, defense, escape/environment).
This training offers informative, proactive strategies and interventions that can help prevent and mitigate fear, conflict and aggression, while creating a culture of safety. The full-day class is comprehensive and relevant to stop escalation and reduce risk of injury to staff.
You will receive training strategies and techniques to mitigate escalated and violent behavior through proactive communication skills and techniques for real-world escalated situations. The class will also cover workplace violence, verbal de-escalation techniques, self-defense tactics and defensive control tactics.

Parking Information
Sharp Grossmont employees should park in their normal spot on campus. Sharp Mesa Vista or McDonald Center employees should park at the Sharp Grossmont Brier Patch located at 9000 Wakarusa Street. Parking is free in the Brier Patch lot.

Arrival
Students enrolled in this class will receive a welcome email directly from AVADE one day prior to their course. The email will contain instructions and a link to create an account to access the online student guide/e-book. Please make sure you have access to the e-book before your class.
Participants who arrive more than five minutes after the class start time will be asked to reschedule.
What to Bring
- It is mandatory that you bring a face covering to class.
- Please wear scrubs or comfortable clothing. You will be asked to perform self-defense movements
- A lunch break will be provided. Please plan to bring your own food and beverages.
