Sharp Lends a Hand invites you to join us at Stand Down, one of our flagship volunteer efforts. This event for San Diego’s homeless veterans has been a huge success over the last several years, thanks in part to Sharp volunteers.
Sponsored by the Veterans Village of San Diego, Stand Down provides community-based social services for veterans who are without a permanent residence. More than 1,000 people will be given a place to sleep and shower, legal and social services, clothing and medical care over a three-day period.
Sharp Lends a Hand volunteers are needed to staff the medical and pharmacy tents, as well as a variety of other positions to make this event possible.
To volunteer in the medical tent (LVNs, MDs, RNs or podiatry techs only) or pharmacy tent (pharmacists or pharmacy techs only), please select a date and time below.
For additional volunteer opportunities, please sign up on the Stand Down volunteer website.
Volunteers for this time slot will work in the medical tent. All enrollees, including their guests, must be licensed vocational nurses, physicians, podiatry technicians or registered nurses.
If you need to cancel your registration for this event,
please call 1-800-827-4277 Monday through Friday, 7 am to 7 pm, or log in to your account to cancel online.
All volunteers are asked to park in the south lot on Presidents Way. Park as close as you can to the pedestrian footbridge, located in the far southeast corner of the parking lot. See map for detailed instructions
Please make sure to provide a phone number when you register in case we have to call you with last-minute information.
Please account for and include the names of all guests during the registration process. To accomplish this online, please add as many guests as you will have to your registration basket before checkout.
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled shift to allow time to park and check in. After parking on Presidents Way, cross the pedestrian footbridge to the volunteer entrance gate of Stand Down. Check in at the registration area for assignments and further instructions.
- Dress comfortably, wear closed-toe shoes and your Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirt. Feel to bring your own water and snacks
- Please leave purses, jewelry and other valuables at home. Sharp HealthCare and the Veterans Village of San Diego are not responsible for any missing personal belongings.
How do I obtain a Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirt?
The Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirts are not event-specific, so if you have volunteered in a past event, you don't need to obtain another T-shirt. If you are volunteering for the first time, you may pick up your T-shirt at Spectrum by going to the second floor and following the signs to the T-shirt location. We have sizes ranging from child medium to adult XXXL.
The Spectrum building is open from 6 am to 6 pm and you must have your Sharp ID for access into the building. If you cannot come to Spectrum, please arrange to have a Sharp employee pick one up for you. Unfortunately, we cannot interoffice mail the shirts.
Can I bring my children?
Sharp HealthCare encourages our team members to bring their families to our volunteer events whenever possible. For this event, however, volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Please do not bring any children or guests who are not volunteering.
