Presented by Sharp HealthCare
Sharp Lends a Hand invites you to help us prepare for Stand Down, one of our flagship volunteer efforts. This event for San Diego’s homeless veterans has been a huge success over the last several years, thanks in part to Sharp volunteers.
Sponsored by the Veterans Village of San Diego, Stand Down provides community-based social services for veterans who are without a permanent residence. More than 1,000 people will be given a place to sleep and shower, legal and social services, clothing and medical care over a three-day period.
Sharp Lends a Hand volunteers are needed to staff a variety of positions to make this event possible, including:
- Clothing drive — May 11
- Presort donated clothing — May 18 or 19 or June 1 or 2
- Set up the clothing tent — June 27 or 28
Volunteers for this activity will help sort, hang and fold donated clothing.

What to Bring
- Dress comfortably, wear closed-toe shoes and your Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirt. If you are volunteering to set up the clothing tent at San Diego High School, you will be working outdoors so you may also want to wear a hat and sunscreen. Feel to bring your own water and snacks, as well as work gloves.
- Please leave purses, jewelry and other valuables at home. Sharp HealthCare and the Veterans Village of San Diego are not responsible for any missing personal belongings.
How do I obtain a Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirt?
The Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirts are not event-specific, so if you have volunteered in a past event, you don't need to obtain another T-shirt. If you are volunteering for the first time, you may pick up your T-shirt at Spectrum by going to the second floor and following the signs to the T-shirt location. We have sizes ranging from child medium to adult XXXL.
The Spectrum building is open from 6 am to 6 pm and you must have your Sharp ID for access into the building. If you cannot come to Spectrum, please arrange to have a Sharp employee pick one up for you. Unfortunately, we cannot interoffice mail the shirts.
Can I bring my children?
Sharp HealthCare encourages our team members to bring their families to our volunteer events whenever possible. For this event, however, volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Please do not bring any children or guests who are not volunteering.
For more information, please review the Stand Down FAQs page on SharpNET or email Sharp Lends a Hand.
