5 ways to save time in the morning

Morning can be the most stressful time of day for busy families. With lunches to pack, missing shoes to find and deadlines to meet, who couldn't use a little extra time to start the day?

These time-saving tips from Sharp HealthCare experts can help you build a few more minutes into your morning, so you can meditate, enjoy a second cup of coffee or catch some extra z's.

Work out in the evening
Your body is in optimal shape for resistance training in the evening, and your reaction time is faster. Plus, it's a great way to ease the stress of the day and prepare your body for restful sleep. Schedule an evening workout and save 30 minutes in the morning. Get more tips on the best time of day to work out.

Freeze your morning smoothie ingredients in advance
Smoothies are a quick and easy way to start your day with protein and fresh fruits and veggies. Give yourself extra time in the morning by prepping items that are ready to dump and blend. Try these delicious and healthful smoothie add-ins.

Prep lunch the day before
Bringing a homemade lunch can save your family money and calories. Choose foods you enjoy, load up on fresh fruits and veggies, and add in things like nuts and seeds for protein and crunch. Pack and store in the fridge the night before to save 10 to 15 minutes in the morning. Get four more tips for a healthful lunch.

Don't hit snooze
It's so tempting, but hitting snooze doesn't actually provide restful sleep, according to Sharp sleep expert Dr. Victoria Sharma. Rather, it tricks your body into thinking it's getting extra sleep, which can actually make it harder to rise and go. Learn more on how to break that snooze button habit.

Don't skip breakfast
With the time you've saved from the tips above, take a few minutes to sit and enjoy the most important meal of the day. This is especially important for kids, who need the right fuel to learn and grow. Three Sharp dietitians share their favorite five-minute breakfasts that include the nutritional building blocks to start off your day right.
