Employees from across Sharp HealthCare have joined together to form Hogs for a Cause, a motorcycle group that aims to lift up spirits in times of distress and bring joy to those in need.
Leo Correa, a maintenance mechanic at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, says the group hopes to make a difference in many lives.
"There's nothing like a long bike ride enjoying San Diego's scenery with friends and family members at your side," says Correa. "With Hogs for a Cause, we have the opportunity to be a positive part of the community while doing something we love. Earlier this year, we participated in a Poker Run to help fundraise for a little girl with leukemia. It was at this event that I realized what an impact we could potentially have in helping those in need."
The group is comprised of mainly Sharp-affiliated employees ranging from engineers to imaging specialists and others who work at Sharp Chula Vista and Sharp Memorial hospitals. Moving forward, they plan to coordinate rides to provide donated school supplies, such as card stock, finger paints and sensory games for special education classes in the Chula Vista and San Diego school districts.
"Whether it's organizing school supplies, a toy drive or raising funds, the experience of bringing joy to kids and those in need is what makes it all worthwhile," says Correa. "As our group develops, I would like to extend the invitation to any riders out there in the Sharp family to come and join us."
