One of the easiest ways to avoid cold and flu is to wash your hands. But how do you know if you've washed for long enough? Here are some simple ways to make sure your hand-washing is in harmony with health recommendations.

Sing one of these songs for 20 seconds long — the ABC song, the chorus of Sweet Caroline, 99 Bottles of Beer, Happy Birthday, or the Jeopardy theme song. You could also write your own tune – it’s easy! Simply choose a well-known kids’ song and write new words. From Humpty Dumpty to Row, Row, Row Your Boat, there are plenty of fun tunes to choose from. Why wash? Handwashing prevents the spread of germs. Want to avoid the flu? Wash your hands frequently, and avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. How to wash. Use warm water and lather your hands with soap. Don’t forget to wash both sides, in between your fingers and your wrist. Rinse by placing hands pointed downward under running water. This removes both the soap and the bacteria.
