Most parents have needed immediate advice on their child’s fever, cough or other ailment and not known where to turn.
Now, parents of Sharp Rees-Stealy pediatric patients can discuss those concerns with an experienced pediatric care provider over the phone, free of charge.
Sharp Rees-Stealy has launched the phone service, Connected to Care® for Pediatrics. Nurse practitioners from the Pediatrics Department are available from 8 to 11:30 am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays to answer questions and discuss health concerns with parents of patients who have already established care with a Sharp Rees-Stealy doctor in either the Family Medicine or Pediatrics departments.
“We’re saving many patients from having to come in for office visits by offering professional telephone evaluation and advice,” says Dr. Howard Smart, chair of the Pediatrics Department for Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group. “This in turn means good and timely care for the child, and certainly benefits parents by avoiding a more significant disruption in their day.”
More than half of calls to Connected to Care for Pediatrics are resolved during the call, without the need for an in-person appointment.
If an appointment is required, the phone conversation is documented in the patient’s medical record so the doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant who sees them during the appointment can view what was already discussed. In many cases, the same nurse practitioner who spoke with the parent on the phone in the morning can see them in the afternoon.
Connected to Care for Pediatrics nurse practitioners are available by phone at 858-499-2600 Monday through Friday, from 8 to 11:30 am.
