Pregnancy: there’s an app for that

First-time mom Victoria Smith holds her daughter Harper Grace.

Know what to expect during pregnancy and beyond? These days, your smartphone can help.

Recently, Sharp HealthCare launched Sharp Baby, a free mobile app that allows parents to access on-demand guidance about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, postpartum care, and more.

The app was designed to meet the demands of a growing number of younger moms who want to access information quickly and on their own schedule.

In the app’s first three months, more than 400 users have downloaded Sharp Baby, and that number continues to grow.

One user, first-time mom and Sharp employee Victoria Smith, shares her insight on how the Sharp Baby app has helped her through her first pregnancy and beyond.

As a new mom, how has the Sharp Baby app been useful to you?
It’s been incredibly helpful to have an app with all of the information and tools I need, all in one place. When I was pregnant, it was so fun to read the weekly milestones of what was going on with my baby. It helped me feel closer to her, and get an inside look into what was going on.

What kind of information did you find?
The detailed information about topics such as breastfeeding and postpartum care has been extremely helpful. When I first gave birth and had some breastfeeding challenges, the app proved to be a great resource of information. I still look at it at least once a day.

What features do you use the most?
When my water broke and I unexpectedly went into labor, the contraction timer was extremely useful. Since giving birth, the breastfeeding log and journal tools have been wonderful ways to keep track of feedings and baby milestones.

Before Sharp Baby launched, how did you find pregnancy-related information?
Before the app, my information gathering was a much more piecemeal experience. I mostly Googled any questions I had or relied on handouts or brochures. This is just much more inclusive and convenient. There’s a wealth of information organized into easily identifiable sections, which is so great. It’s a very succinct and digestible format.

What would you tell other new moms about the Sharp Baby app?
It’s one of the only apps I've found that has such detailed information as well as interactive tools to make pregnancy and parenthood a little easier.

The Sharp Baby mobile app is available for download by searching “Sharp Baby” in the App Store or on Google Play.
