For more than 20 years, Sharp HealthCare has been a leader in using digital technology to communicate with patients, doctors and the community. Sharp was one of the first health systems in the country to launch a comprehensive website, sharp.com, which continues to serve as an example for other hospitals and health systems. Sharp was also among the inaugural inductees into the Healthcare Internet Hall of Fame in 2011.
Kelly Faley, vice president for web strategy and customer contact centers, is the visionary behind sharp.com and many of Sharp’s digital innovations. In recognition of her leadership in health care marketing, Faley recently received the 2017 John A. Eudes Vision & Excellence Award at the Healthcare Internet Conference (HCIC) in Austin, Texas.
“This is an honor that is well-deserved,” says Mike Schneider, executive vice president and co-founder of Greystone.net, the organizers of HCIC. “Throughout her career, Kelly has exemplified the qualities outlined for the award. She is a true icon in the digital health care marketing space, often leading the pack and not afraid to take chances. Kelly has persevered and continuously driven the organization to a place of excellence in our industry.”
The award, named for the founder of Greystone.net, honors those who care more, dream bigger, take more risks and expect more than others think is possible.
“John was such an inspiration to the entire community — and especially to me,” says Faley. “This is a tremendous honor. I hope that I can continue to contribute to the health care internet community just as John did.”
Under Faley’s leadership, Sharp pioneered many of today’s common health care communication tools, including patient portals, tools to help patients find the right doctor, mobile phone applications, a social media command center and a digital newsroom.
“Kelly has been integral in bringing together senior leaders from all over the organization to create digital strategies and offerings that support a patient’s health care journey,” says Michael W. Murphy, president and chief executive officer of Sharp HealthCare.
Faley’s work with Sharp continues to be recognized by others in health care. Sharp received five eHealthcare Leadership Awards at HCIC, including a Silver Award for the Find A Doctor tool, a Gold Award for Sharp Health News and was one of three health care systems in the nation to receive the Mark Gothberg eHealthcare Organizational Commitment Award, recognizing the best in digital health care communications.
