The new facility is a half a mile from the existing Chula Vista medical center at 525 Third Avenue and will allow for future expansion to meet the growing health care needs of the community. The building will offer a wide range of services across three floors. The ENVISION campaign is helping to fund the Sharp Rees-Stealy Chula Vista project, the Sharp Rees-Stealy Otay Ranch expansion project and other development efforts across the system.

Designed with patient convenience in mind, the new medical center will feature adult and pediatric physical therapy gyms, seven blood draw stations, a full-service pharmacy and the most advanced imaging technology available. Most care providers and services from the Genesee, Mira Mesa and Murphy Canyon sites will move to the new building when it opens. We extend our profound gratitude to Dorothea Laub for her generous gift naming the Advanced Imaging Suite, and to Kevin Cook for his meaningful contribution naming the second‑floor lobby.

Sharp HospiceCare is more than end-of-life care. It's about comfort, compassion and giving every patient the best possible quality of life. Moore MountainView Hospice Home, our fourth, has opened its doors thanks to the generosity of more than 1,200 donors who contributed more than $6.7 million in philanthropic support.

On March 27, Sharp hosted an official ribbon cutting ceremony for Sharp Grossmont Hospital for Neuroscience. The state-of-the-art facility, which was brought to life thanks in part to over $16.9 million in philanthropic support, serves as San Diego's first single center of excellence for patients needing advanced brain and spine care.

Thanks to two philanthropic grants totaling over $6.4 million, Sharp Chula Vista constructed an emergency psychiatric assessment, treatment and healing (EmPATH) unit in the Emergency Department, focused on crisis stabilization.

The newly expanded Sharp Coronado Hospital Emergency Department opened on Jan. 29. With the expansion, we increased our capacity from eight to 15 beds, enhancing privacy and reducing wait times.

April 2023 to November 2023
The Laurie C. McGrath Foundation signed a $10 million pledge for ENVISION Sharp Metro Modernization project, matching the largest gift Sharp has ever received.
With the donation, the ENVISION campaign surpassed the midpoint of its goal, raising more than $134 million of its milestone $250 million goal investment in the future of healthcare in San Diego.
To recognize the generosity of Laurie McGrath, the new acute care facility on the Sharp Metropolitan Medical Campus will be named the McGrath Tower.

The James Silberrad Brown Foundation generously donated $6 million to Sharp HealthCare to aid our efforts in providing exceptional care in San Diego in 2022.
In recognition of this gift, Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion was renamed James S. Brown Pavilion in September 2023.
Patients will be able to receive the same services within the pavilion as they have in the past, such as outpatient surgery, cancer treatment and imaging. The pavilion will also house the Advanced Heart Failure Clinic, outpatient endoscopy and physician medical offices for ophthalmology and oncology.

June 17, 2022, marked the first milestone in the Campaign for Emergency and Intensive Care at Sharp Coronado Hospital. Leadership donors gathered outdoors for a ribbon cutting to celebrate gaining occupancy for the Sherrie and Ron Auen Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Less than a week later, the first patient was moved into the ICU. The comprehensive build-out of the state-of-the-art ICU on the hospital’s fourth floor, with its inherent privacy and picturesque views of the Coronado bridge and neighboring community, serves as the unit’s new home.

It was indeed an historic launch of ENVISION: The Campaign for Sharp HealthCare on June 8 at the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park. More than 600 guests joined us at Envisioning Excellence – an evening of sharing, powerful messages, moving performances and our opportunity to thank our philanthropy partners.

Bill Littlejohn announces $88 million milestone reached at ENVISION launch party.
Long-time Sharp donors and friends Willy and Alchera Ayyad have established the Del Corazon First-Generation Fund at the Terrence and Barbara Caster Institute for Nursing Excellence with a $1 million gift.

We rang the giving bell twice – to celebrate the extraordinary $4 million gift to ENVISION from the Cushman Foundation! The gift includes $1 million for the Moore MountainView Hospice Home and $3 million for the Cushman Emergency and Trauma Center at Sharp Memorial Hospital – fitting tributes to one of the “first families” of Sharp HealthCare and among our most generous benefactors.

"Nearly, 20 years ago, the Cushman family made the largest single gift to the James S. Brown Pavilion (formerly Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion) at that time. We believed in the project and the mission of Sharp and continue that commitment to this day. Today, we are continuing our family’s legacy to name the Emergency and Trauma Center at Sharp Memorial Hospital with our family’s largest single gift. I implore you to consider a gift that is transformational for you. We all can do something great for the health of our community that some may never know."

Congratulations to Coronado Hospital Foundation on achieving the initial $12 million goal for the Campaign for the Emergency Department and ICU!
Yet, we are not slowing down – the Board approved a $6 million extension to the campaign to fund a dramatic new Emergency Department entrance, access and drop off. Sharp Coronado Hospital continues to undergo an extraordinary transformation, made possible through generous community philanthropy.

Sharp HealthCare Foundation was awarded $900,000 from The Conrad Prebys Foundation for the Neonatal Research Institute (NRI) at Sharp Mary Birch and our project “Providing oxygen during delayed cord clamping to improve long-term neurodevelopment in children.” The Foundation was impressed with the work and success of Dr. Anup Katheria and the NRI; including that we were able to share the NRI has been awarded additional grants during the review process, which strengthened the submission.
Congratulations to Sharp Mesa Vista for a $500,000 matching grant from the David C. Copley Foundation for the SMV Behavioral Health ICU project! A great gift from a long-time philanthropy partner of Sharp. This indeed stimulated giving – and quickly – as the match was achieved well before the deadline of December 20, 2022.
September 30, 2021 was another historic milestone for Sharp HealthCare with the official groundbreaking for the new, named in recognition of a $5 million challenge grant from The Conrad Prebys Foundation. This extraordinary new facility, which will open in 2023, will be a “Hub” for all Sharp innovation, furthering Sharp’s vision to be the best place to work, practice medicine and receive care. The SPIEC is one of the most important projects in Sharp and San Diego’s history.
