Traumatic events can affect more than just the victims. If you're a first responder or receiver, attend this daylong class designed to help you address the personal elements of the recovery tenet of emergency management. You will learn to identify the signs of post-traumatic stress and how to cope with personal challenges that no one may have anticipated.

At this class, you will learn:

  • How to identify symptoms of post-traumatic stress
  • Coping mechanisms to assist you in day-to-day responsibilities
  • Immediate, intermediate and long-term recovery needs

This class is intended for first responders and receivers such as health care workers, law enforcement officers, fire department personnel, dispatchers, investigators and anyone else who may respond to a catastrophic event.

Presenter Information plus

  • Stephen Coover is a battalion chief with the Bloomington Fire Department in Bloomington, Indiana. He is also an instructor with the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Fire Administration.
  • Laura Billon, MFS, CFI, is a fire and arson profiler for the Center for Arson Research and and an instructor with the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Fire Administration. She also works as a disaster preparedness coordinator for Sharp HealthCare.

CEUs plus
