Presented by Sharp HealthCare plus

Join the San Diego River Park Foundation as we care for a wonderful collection of California native plants and trees at the two-acre Point Loma Native Plant Garden on the border of Ocean Beach and Point Loma. The garden is filled with many rare and beautiful native plants and trees and an extensive trail system.

Activities may include watering, pruning, weeding and other light gardening/maintenance projects. No experience needed and community service hours can be verified.

Cancellation Policy plus

If you need to cancel your registration for this event, please call 1-800-827-4277 Monday through Friday, 7 am to 7 pm, or log in to your account to cancel online.

Parking Information plus

The garden is located adjacent to 4444 Greene Street. Free street parking is available.

Special Instructions plus

Please account for and include the names of all guests during the registration process. To accomplish this online, please add as many guests as you will have to your registration basket before checkout.

Please provide a phone number when you register in case we need to call you with last-minute information.

Arrival plus

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled shift to allow time for parking and registration. The entrance to the garden is located at the corner of Mendocino Boulevard and Greene Street. Check in with the volunteer coordinator when you arrive.

There are no restroom facilities and the site is not wheelchair accessible. Be sure to plan accordingly.

What to Bring plus

  • Every participant will need to bring a signed copy of the San Diego River Park Foundation waiver and release form that will be emailed to you immediately after registration. Anyone under the age of 18 needs a parent's or guardian's signature to participate.
  • Dress comfortably in gardening clothes and wear your Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirt. Be sure to dress in clothes that can get a little dirty and wear closed-toe shoes such as tennis or hiking shoes; no heels or sandals allowed for safety reasons. Long pants are highly recommended. Depending on the weather, you may also want to wear a hat, jacket and sunscreen. You should also bring your own work gloves. All other tools and supplies are provided.
  • Feel free to bring your own snacks and refreshments. Please note that there is no potable water at this site. You must bring your own reusable water bottle with water to drink (we encourage reusable in order to reduce single-use plastics). We highly encourage you to check the weather ahead of time and plan accordingly.
  • Please leave purses, jewelry and other valuables at home. Sharp HealthCare and the San Diego River Park Foundation will not be responsible for any missing personal belongings.

How do I obtain a Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirt?
The Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirts are not event-specific, so if you have volunteered in a past event, you don't need to obtain another T-shirt. If you are volunteering for the first time, you may pick up your T-shirt at Spectrum by going to the second floor and following the signs to the T-shirt location. We have sizes ranging from child medium to adult XXXL.

Can I bring my children?
Sharp HealthCare encourages you to bring your family to our volunteer events whenever possible. Children are welcome to volunteer for this activity, but please make sure they are registered. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. To obtain a community service certificate for your child’s school, email Sharp Lends a Hand after the event.

For more information, please review the Point Loma Garden Club Volunteer Session FAQs page on SharpNET (employee access only) or email Sharp Lends a Hand.
