This initial level I-III class is only for Sharp Mesa Vista, Sharp McDonald Center and Sharp Grossmont Behavioral Health Department employees who have direct interaction with patients. This class is designed to provide training to help you prevent violence in the workplace via a program known as AVADE (awareness, vigilance, avoidance, defense, escape/environment).

This training offers informative, proactive strategies and interventions that can help prevent and mitigate fear, conflict and aggression, while creating a culture of safety. The class is comprehensive and relevant to stop escalation and reduce risk of injury to staff.

You will receive training strategies and techniques to mitigate escalated and violent behavior through proactive communication skills and techniques for real-world escalated situations. The eight-hour class will also cover workplace violence, verbal de-escalation techniques, self-defense tactics and defensive control tactics.

In order to receive the completion certificate for this training, you are expected to participate and return demonstrate AVADE Level II and III skills taught in the class.
