Postdoctoral fellowship current opportunities

We provide three levels of training: practicum training for advanced doctoral students, a doctoral internship program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and a fellowship program.
Our postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology provides fast-paced, intensive, experiential learning; seminars; and ample individual and group supervision in a practitioner-scholar training model.
At Sharp, we place strong value on the idea that science informs practice and practice informs science. Also described as a junior-colleague model, our program provides opportunities for fellows to work alongside licensed professionals in psychology and other disciplines. Our expert team is broadly acknowledged for the unique contributions each person brings to the table.
Our fellowship program fulfills the licensure requirements for postdoctoral supervised practice in California. Fellows are encouraged to be licensed as psychologists prior to the end of the training year.

Many of our current psychologists are former Sharp interns and/or fellows and five of our current staff/faculty members were former postdoctoral fellows.
We are offering two postdoctoral fellowship positions for 2023-2024 at Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital. Both positions are located at the adult intensive outpatient level.
Each fellow receives six months of specialized training in COG-IOP and six months of specialized training in DBT-informed IOP.
Patients include adults diagnosed with severe mood, anxiety and personality disorders. Approximately 50 to 75 percent of our patients are referred from inpatient psychiatric units, and other patients are referred from outpatient professionals because they are either not progressing or are at high risk at a lower level of care.
Our COG-IOP and DBT-IOP programs utilize a co-therapist model. Throughout the year, COG/DBT fellows supervise at least one intern or advanced doctoral student. Fellows will also conduct comprehensive intake evaluations for prospective patients, lead psychoeducation and process groups, participate in weekly treatment team meetings and conduct individual therapy sessions (DBT-IOP).
As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, fellows play a role in our APA-accredited psychology internship program as well as our externship program for advanced doctoral students. Fellows receive training and supervision in clinical supervision, and have the opportunity to provide clinical supervision throughout the year.
Cultural competence is a high priority for our clinical teams and our training program. Fellows participate in a monthly critical consciousness seminar to provide culturally competent supervision and to take a leadership role in supporting culturally informed care for patients.

Three letters of recommendation, sent directly from your supervisor(s) via the link you provide to them in the APPA CAS system. These must confirm APA-accredited internship and graduate program, dissertation status and appropriate experience.
-One letter must be from dissertation chair or graduate school training director confirming that you have met all requirements for graduation and will have defended your dissertation no later than July 31, 2023.
-Two letters from clinical supervisors, at least one of whom has directly supervised you in the use of traditional CBT theory and techniques and can confirm that you have achieved basic competence and are prepared for advanced specialty training in CBT. Letters should speak to the type of supervision provided (audio, video, live supervision, co-therapy, etc.).
We occasionally receive applications from individuals who have been subject to remediation or probation at some point during their graduate school or internship training. Although prior remediation or probation will by no means prevent consideration for a fellowship, any history of formal remediation/probation must be noted and addressed in your cover letter and in at least one letter of recommendation.
Construction will begin in Spring 2022 and will occur in three major phases, with expected completion in 2029. Impacted departments will be notified by the project team well ahead of the start of work in order to coordinate the transition of workspace, staff or supplies.
