Introduction to Mindful Awareness and Self-Compassion Class
This two-hour class will introduce Sharp employees and members of the community to the benefits of mindful awareness and self-compassion. Mindful awareness teaches us how to deal with difficult experiences by focusing on what is happening in the moment, while the goal of self-compassion is learning how to be less critical and more loving and accepting of yourself and your faults. When combined, the two practices can improve life satisfaction and emotional resilience, bring wisdom and optimism and encourages curiosity, responsibility and a better connection with others.
The course is based on pioneering research by Kristin Neff, PhD, of the University of Texas, and the clinical expertise of Chris Germer, PhD, of the Harvard Medical School-Cambridge Health Alliance. In-class activities include a lecture, facilitated meditation and group exercises.
Following this activity, participants will be able to:
- Reflect upon the meaning, process and benefit of cultivating mindful awareness and self-compassion
- Directly experience a mindful self-compassion practice that may enhance your sense of clarity, resilience and well-being
Light refreshments will be available.
