Phlebotomy Seminar: Past, Present and Future
Phlebotomy practices have changed dramatically over the years prompted by historical events coupled with increasing medical knowledge. This three-hour session will provide insight into the evolution of vastly improved phlebotomy techniques, blood-related illness transmission and the latest cutting-edge phlebotomy technologies. We will discuss the role of the phlebotomist in health care communication and patient safety. Critical thinking skill-building activities will be included.
At the conclusion of this program, you will be able to:
- Describe the evolution of phlebotomy and the role of the phlebotomist
- Discuss historic catastrophic events that served as a catalyst for stocking blood supplies
- Describe the basic concepts of communication as they relate to health care
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills to resolve adverse situations encountered in phlebotomy
Please note that all registrants must possess one of the following California licenses: CPT, MLT or CLS.
