As a system pharmacy buyer, Lauren assists with the standardization of processes of pharmaceutical procurement. She established processes to capture over $593,000 dollars in pharmaceutical savings through auditing pharmacy wholesalers. Her commitment to daily monitoring of purchases contributed to over $3.9 million in savings from the 340B Drug Discount Program. Additionally, she has established processes to monitor pharmaceutical waste, which has resulted in a decrease in expired drugs, saving $111,000 in just six months.
340B Optimization: Sharp Infusion Centers, Sharp HealthCare – Multi-Entity
This team collaborated with system oncology pharmacists, oncologists, infusion staff as well as the pharmacy buyers to review the purchase history of high cost chemotherapy infusion medications. Together they accurately identified those pharmaceuticals that comply with the 340B Drug Pricing Program that allows health care providers to obtain discounted prices on covered outpatient drugs. Through their problem solving and creative approach, this team realized an annualized system cost savings of $6.7 million.
Enterprise Architecture and Support, Sharp HealthCare — System Services
This department adopted a holistic approach to implement innovative concepts for information technologies and better manage resources, while simultaneously decreasing capital and operating costs. After educating themselves on supplier sales systems and negotiation strategies, they identified opportunities to trim expenses for support and maintenance of Sharp’s existing technology infrastructure. Their efforts have resulted in capital reductions of $2.8 million and contract savings of $4.5 million.
