Sharp Grossmont Hospital for Women & Newborns
Your safety and health are our top priorities. Although in-person prenatal classes, hospital tours and outpatient support groups are canceled, many programs are available via live webinar, including our prenatal classes and support groups.
Our visitation and overnight guest guidelines are also updated regularly. Because we're unable to offer tours at this time, we have created a virtual tour for mothers-to-be who are delivering here.
Caring for the women of East County.
Our community is a special place. That's why caring for you is something we'll never take for granted. From mothers and their infants to comprehensive gynecologic care throughout a women's life, we are the name you can trust in East County. And to take care of your heart, we are the only hospital in San Diego with a dedicated women’s acute cardiac care unit, with a team specializing in women’s cardiovascular care.
A family-centered approach to caring for mothers and newborns.
Nationally recognized as a top maternity hospital, we put family at the center of our care. This means encouraging family members to participate in the birthing experience. We also know the value of encouraging bonding time with your baby, so you and your baby will remain together throughout your hospital stay and family can visit comfortably in our spacious labor and delivery suites.
Your labor and delivery experience is our top priority. This includes a variety of birthing options and caretakers who take your preferences and concerns into account. In addition, we:
- Are recognized on U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-23 Best Hospitals Maternity Care list for exceeding quality measures such as low C-section and low newborn complication rates.
- Are on Newsweek's Best Maternity Hospitals 2021 list as one of the best U.S. hospitals to have a baby and for high safety and quality standards
- Rank nationally in the top 10th percentile for patient satisfaction by Press Ganey
- Consistently have C-section and episiotomy rates that are among the lowest statewide
- Deliver nearly 3,000 babies every year
- Offer 48 spacious suites, including 24 postpartum delivery suites for your comfort
One-on-one breastfeeding support.
We promote breastfeeding and understand the importance of skin-to-skin contact. To ensure that your baby is feeding properly, our on-site certified lactation specialist will provide you with one-on-one assistance, seven days a week, throughout your hospital stay. For ongoing support, we offer breastfeeding support groups.
Specialty care you can trust.
For newborns needing a little extra hand, we have a team of experts and specialists in our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to help them grow and heal. We also provide a full range of advanced services, from managing high-risk pregnancies to providing women options for vaginal birth after a cesarean (VBAC) with high success rates.
Other programs and services include:
- Cord blood banking
- Jaundice and hearing screenings for newborns
- Pediatrics unit
- Prenatal clinic
- State-of-the-art infant security
If you're delivering here, you can also access your maternity preadmission form, a birth plan worksheet to let us know your birthing wishes and other resources online.
Comprehensive gynecologic care for all stages of life.
Whether you’re embarking on a journey through motherhood, starting menopause, or require other gynecologic care, you can count on us for a broad scope of services throughout life:
- Gynecologic or reproductive cancer
- Pelvic disorders (surgical and non-surgical treatment)
