Recreation therapists are available to meet with individuals with physical limitations and provide leisure education and community referrals to other local adaptive programs. Sharp recreation therapists also work closely with many community agencies that serve persons with disabilities to provide a community network of programs and services for San Diegans with physical limitations.
Adapted aquatics
Adapted aquatics is a class designed for individuals with a physical disability. Specific exercises are taught which can help strengthen muscles, build endurance, improve joint flexibility, increase functional movements, reduce pain and assist with relaxation. Classes led by a recreation therapist.

Adaptive golf clinic
Sharp Rehabilitation Center Recreation Therapy presents a golf clinic for individuals with physical challenges, which will be led by PGA teaching professional John Klein. John has more than 30 years of experience teaching golf to individuals with physical limitations. The current participants in the clinic have a range of disabilities including stroke, brain injury and other limitations. The group enjoys meeting weekly, socializing and playing a round of golf. John is very patient and eager to help anyone who is interested in playing the game of golf.

Adaptive snow skiing
The Torrey Pines Kiwanis Foundation offers a five-day, all-expense-paid adaptive ski scholarship to learn to snow ski. The program is funded by the La Jolla Festival of the Arts and is held at a premiere adaptive ski school, the Adaptive Sports Association in Durango, Colorado. Adaptive weight training
Adaptive weight training is designed for individuals with physical disabilities who want to increase strength, endurance and cardiovascular fitness. Arm and leg ergometers are available for cardiovascular fitness. Weight machines, free weights and raised mat tables are provided for strengthening programs. Volunteers are available to help assist with the adapted weight cuffs and with use of the equipment. Classes led by a recreation therapist.

Adaptive yoga
Benefits of adaptive yoga include improved posture, less back pain, increased stamina and enhanced feeling of relaxation. Those who continue yoga practice at home seem to experience even more benefits. Yoga is about self-awareness and enhancing one's whole being - physically, mentally and spiritually.

Aquacise
Aquacise is a class for individuals with arthritis and those who would benefit from gentle water exercise. The class consists of a series of specifically designed exercises, which, with the aid of the water's buoyancy and resistance, can help improve balance, joint flexibility, improve muscle strength and build endurance.

Gentle fitness
Gentle fitness is a conditioning program designed to help individuals with chronic or disabling conditions achieve healthier lifestyles in a supportive group environment. This is a moderate exercise program consisting of basic stretching and strengthening for the major muscle groups of the body. Participants are introduced to these exercises mainly in the seated position. Classes led by a recreation therapist.

Wheelchair Dancing
Wheelchair Dancing is a conditioning program designed to help individuals increase strength, endurance and range of motion. Participants enjoy socializing in a fun, engaging environment.

Young Enthusiastic Stroke Survivors "YESS" Support Group
Young Enthusiastic Stroke Survivors support group (YESS) is a free support group for survivors and their families. A recognized member of the American Heart Association, YESS sponsors meetings and newsletters that focus on educating the community about stroke and highlighting the effects of stroke on young people and their families. YESS is not limited to stroke survivors. It also supports adults with head injuries, family members, professionals and educators. Learn more.
